Every one of our beloved shows from Charmed, Miami Vice, Magnum P.I., ALF, Murphy Brown, Will & Grace and Roseanne have been dusted off and revived.

So the news that Bewitched is being reworked for modern audiences may come with a collective groan.

Except this one might actually tell a modern-day story instead of trying to recapture the magic that Elizabeth Montgomery cast on us as Samantha Stevens.

Deadline reports that the new Bewitched will still follow the adventures of Samantha and her marriage to her mortal husband, Darrin.

However, the pilot from Blackish creator Kenya Barris will show Samantha as a black, single mum, who despite her magical powers, works out she is "still not as powerful as a decently tall white man with a full head of hair in America".

No word yet on casting.

The original Bewitched ran for eight seasons from 1964 to 1972 and starred Elizabeth Montgomery as Samantha, Dick York as Darrin and Agnes Moorehead as Samantha's mother, Endora.

In that show Darrin tries to get Samantha to live a normal life without resorting to witchcraft.

Nicole Kidman and Will Farrell played the married pair in a 2005 movie that was generally panned by critics and moviegoers.

But maybe this reboot is fresh enough to win over audiences with its take on current life in America.
