Beware of grass fire danger is message after Sunday fire

THE locals had a grass fire under control quickly on a property at Rapisarda Lane, Somme, Ballandean, at 8.42am Sunday.

The Queensland Fire and Emergency Service headed to the scene but the fire was under control when they got there.

At 10.40am, two units from the Stanthorpe QFES station are standing by during a permitted burn at Lock St, Stanthorpe.

The QFES had two calls about the permitted burn which is under control. The QFES units are only there incase it burns further than planned.

While there have been few grass fires in recent weeks, there is a bit of wind around today.

The weather at Applethorne, the nearest recording station to Ballandean, has expected winds from the south west at 11km/h with gusts to 13km/h on Sunday. There is a five per cent chance of under 1mm rain.
