Bets are on for how Prince Charles and Camilla will arrive

IF YOU'RE not sure which horse to back in Tuesday's $6.2 million Melbourne Cup at Flemington, perhaps you could try something a little more exotic.

Online bookmaker sportsbet.com.au has framed a market on how Prince Charles and Camilla will arrive at the track.

The last time Charles attended the great race (1985), he arrived by boat, so perhaps not surprisingly that option is again the $2.20 favourite.

In keeping with the reason for the day, arriving by horse and carriage is second pick at $2.80 with a limo next at $3.50.

Those who think the next in line to the British throne might be after something a little more exciting to impress Camilla on her first visit to the Cup might be interested in the Hummer option at $26, or even a parachute (don't forget his Mum's impressive entry to the Olympics) at $101.

A market has even been set up on what colour hat Camilla might wear.

Blue is the favourite at $4, but plenty of options are listed including pink ($5), white ($6), purple or brown ($8), yellow ($10) and polka dot at $26.

For those who fancy a punt on the big race, the latest betting has 2010 Cup winner Americain at $6.50, just ahead of Mount Athos at $7, last year's winner Dunaden at $7.50 and 2011 runner-up Red Cadeaux at $9
