Berisha star of late show against Mariners

BESART Berisha showed Brisbane Roar fans just what they will be missing next season after his stoppage time winner stretched his team's lead at the top of the A-League to seven points with a 2-1 home success over Central Coast Mariners at Suncorp Stadium.

Berisha, who is on his way to Melbourne Victory at the end of this campaign, latched on to a Thomas Broich pass to break Mariners' hearts in injury time.

The visitors had led up until the 66th minute thanks to a Mile Sterjovski penalty after the former Socceroo was brought down by Brisbane keeper Michael Theo in the 36th minute.

The home side enjoyed the majority of possession from that moment on but could not break through until substitute Henrique notched a deserved equaliser not long after entering the fray after more good work from Broich.

The German had the Mariners' defence struggling to keep under control for much of the second period and he almost got his name on the scoresheet but just shot over the crossbar in the 75th minute.

It looked as if the winner might not come despite Roar's domination until Berisha's intervention late on.

And even then there was more late drama with Mitchell Duke clipping the post with a left-foot drive with the last shot of the game to almost snatch a dramatic equaliser.
