Barrett Shield tournament to begin
COWBOYS Rugby League Club’s annual Barrett Shield tournament is being held today, and the flood-ravaged club is urging the community to support it as it gets back on its feet.
President Don Browne said the boys had been training hard and the field had recovered well following the floods.
“With a bit of TLC the ground has come back really well. We just need the crowd to support us so we can get the money through the club to do our restorations,” he said.
The games will be the second round of trials for the season and Browne said a lot was riding on the outcome.
“The boys have been training well and this is a big game for us because it gauges how we’re going for the rest of the season,” he said.
“It will be a great way to boost morale with the damage of the floods, and a big crowd will help lift spirits.”
Browne said the support from the Warwick community in the wake of the floods had been overwhelming and he hoped people would continue to support the club.
Games kick off from 4pm today at the Cowboys grounds.
Ball boys for the game should report by 3.30pm.
