Band beginners together in Flux
BUDDING musicians are being invited to join a new local band that caters to beginners.
The Stanthorpe Flux band is aimed at people learning a musical instrument who are not quite ready for the big league.
RSL Concert Band musical director Beck Barns said all ages were welcome to join rehearsals each Wednesday afternoon.
“We already have an RSL Swing Band and Concert Band but we had members who had just started learning their instruments and the music was a bit too difficult for them,” Ms Barns said. “We decided to start Stanthorpe Flux so they could learn how to play in a band and play with members who were the same level.
“The band will be its own entity and rehearse before the concert band.”
Ms Barns said there had been a spike in interest in learning a musical instrument across all ages, from eight years old to 73.
But when the novices joined the concert band, they found it hard to keep up and sadly left the group.
Ms Barns said the new Stanthorpe Flux band would fill the need for a beginner band that could act as a step up.
“We don’t teach how to play the instruments but they’ll learn the skills of how to play with a band,” she said.
These skills include following a conductor, sounding the same as other instruments, volume, articulation and hearing other players.
Anyone interested can attend rehearsals on Wednesdays 3.45-4.15pm at the Paddy Ryan Band Shell at Weeroona Park.
