Ballandean takes a clean sweep of wins

Ballandean v United

AFTER more than a decade with his boyhood club, Ballandean's John Spiller was farewelled in fitting fashion as his men's side scored a win over the previously undefeated Stanthorpe United.

In an exciting tussle, the reds got on the board first through Greg Dachs.

The second half built on the first's intensity and had both groups of spectators on the edge of their seats.

United pulled a goal back through a Curtis Allen penalty but the home side pulled away with a second and a third.

Despite plenty of chances, luck didn't favour United on the day as they succumbed to their first loss of 2018.

In the day's earlier games Ballandean's Fillies and Senior Colts won 5-1, with a 6-0 win to Ballandean in Junior Colts. Sam Rametta notched a hat-trick while Zephyr Horan put in a solid performance.

The closest encounter of the day was between the two ladies outfits. Both sides went at each other in the early stanza but the home side edged ahead after a Richelle Reardon goal.

Danika Newman shone for Ballandean and despite United's chances and fight, the Ballandean girls held out for a strong three points.

Brittany McEvoy and Alesha Westerhout were stand outs for United.
