Art lecture critiques the bowl

ALEXIS Tacey, Lecturer in Ceramics at the University of Southern Queensland, will deliver an art education talk at the Stanthorpe Regional Art Gallery on Friday August 10 at 11am, titled "Critiquing the bowl”.

Alexis has been making pottery for more than 30 years. After completing art school, she worked with Janet Mansfield, Sydney, as part of a 12 month traineeship.

Alexis studied in Japan for four years, three at the studio of Yoshida Yoshihiko as his apprentice.

Returning to Australia, she built her studio and wood fired kiln in Stanthorpe and became Lecturer in Ceramics in 1995.

She has exhibited in Sydney, Brisbane, Tokyo and Toowoomba.

She will discuss making bowls and how functional pottery inspires potters to make the best bowls yet.

This lecture will critique the bowl to understand the significance of pottery in a contemporary context.
