Argentinean winemaker joins the Channon team

ROBERT Channon wines owner Robert Channon is looking forward to achieving some big things next vintage with the help of his new winemaker, Paola Cabezas-Bono.

"Paola is one of the best winemakers in the district," Mr Channon said.

Paola, who is Argentinean, moved to the Granite Belt 13 years ago after meeting her now ex-husband, who worked at Ballandean Estate.

But after getting a taste and seeing just how great the produce on the Granite Belt was, Paola could not bring herself to leave.

"The vintage was just amazing," she said.

Since living on the Granite Belt, Paola has worked at Ballandean Estate, Heritage Wines and Summit Estate.

A winemaker for 20 years, Paola has picked up many awards in Australia and in Spain, Argentina and France as well.

"I have a lot of experience with red wines, especially with pinots," Paola said.

"The challenge is going to be the white wines and keeping up Robert Channon Wines' reputation.

"I am really looking forward to the next vintage, the quality of fruit on the Granite Belt is just amazing."

Mr Channon has no doubt the winemaker is up to the challenge.

"We have big things planned for the next vintage," he said.

"Paola is just helping us finish off this vintage.

"It has been a good year."
