Arena action starts tomorrow

CAMPDRAFT: Plenty of preparation and effort has gone into the organisation of this year's Stanthorpe Campdraft and things kick off tomorrow.

The annual campdraft will be held at the new showgrounds arena from tomorrow to Sunday.

The Bull Ride Spectacular is a new event for Friday night and is free to the public, as is the whole weekend.

"Gates open at 3pm but the action starts at about 6pm,” Campdraft sub-committee secretary Paula Boatfield said.

The organisers are ecstatic about the high number of entries and say it should make for an exciting three days.

The open draft starts at 10am tomorrow and finals should run from 2pm.

From there the junior and juvenile drafts will be run, as well as steer competitions across the weekend.

"The Saturday and Sunday we have a full program for both days. We have over 720 first round runs, which is quite big for a small community campdraft.

"Cattle donations are higher than ever and we thank the donors.”

The new arena is a drawcard and Mrs Boatfield said riders were excited to return.

"Anyone that ran on that ground for the show draft in February was just champing at the bit to get back. Word has got out,” she said.

There'll be food and drink and music from Larry Keen following the rodeo.
