Benz to change gear
FORMER Swiss player Andy Benz has been appointed coach of the Warwick Wolves premier grade side.
Andy played provincial football in Switzerland before moving to Australia in the early-1980s with his wife Ingrid and settling on the Southern Downs where their children have been heavily involved in sport.
A long-term player for Warwick and Allora in Football Toowoomba fixtures, Andy played his last footy for a premiership-winning Blackstone team in an over-30s competition in Ipswich two years ago.
Last year, he was named in the Warwick District Football Association Top Team for the first 25 years of the association and played in an anniversary game.
He was at the helm of the Wolves for the first training session of the season on Tuesday night.
The club will train each Tuesday for men and women at Queens Park at 6.30pm until the end of February.
As many of the players are currently involved in futsal each Thursday night at WIRAC, club officials are only scheduling one session a week at this stage.
The first round of fixtures is in mid-March and Warwick will field premier, reserves and colts' men's teams as well as a women's side.
Colts' fixtures will be played on a Friday night in Toowoomba with all other games on Sundays. Some of the Wolves games are at Queens Park with women at 11am, reserves at 1pm and premier at 3pm.
Football Toowoomba clubs are from Gatton, Highfields, Warwick and Dalby with multiple clubs in Toowoomba.
Coaches are still being finalised for other grades but prospective coaches have expressed interest.
Players keen to join are welcome at training or can speak with senior co-ordinator Dom Benz at futsal or can call him on 0407 376013.
The junior sign-on will be held at Queens Park on February 18 at 11am.
