Bali 9 duo face execution transfer in 48 hours

THE two Bali Nine ringleaders awaiting execution were expected to be transferred to an island in the next two days in preparation for the firing squad.

While lawyers for Andrew Chan and Myuran Sukumaran continue to fight the execution order, a senior Indonesian official told ABC the transfer was imminent.

Bali's chief prosecutor Momock Bambang Sumiarso on Tuesday told the ABC the pair would be transferred to an island for the execution in the next 48 hours. The men were expected to be transferred last month to the island to face the firing squad, but the transfer was delayed by the Indonesian Government.

However despite pleas from Foreign Minister Julie Bishop and public campaigns urging clemency, Indonesian President Joko Widodo has rejected the calls.

The men were arrested about 10 years ago in relation to a heroin smuggling operation they helped organise.

Andrew Chan and Myuran Sukumaran: executions loom

THE man in charge of the transfer of Bali nine duo Andrew Chan and Myuran Sukumaran says the men will "definitely" be transferred this week to Nusakambangan, the island in Central Java where they are due to be executed.

Bali's chief prosecutor Momock Bambang Samiarso said the office of the attorney-general had given him the order to proceed with the movement.

The stance of the attorney-general could not be immediately verified and Mr Momock's predictions have proved to be wrong before, but preparations are all but complete on Indonesia's "execution island" to receive the Australian drug smugglers.

"It will be this week, definitely. They are ready [at Nusakambangan]."

Speaking briefly on Monday morning, Mr Momock said the transfer of the drug smugglers was "not possible" today. As for Tuesday, he said "everything is possible".
