All codes warming up for 2012
WARWICK sporting clubs are looking forward to a strong 2012, with many not far from beginning their calls for new and seasoned players.
One of the first clubs to welcome the new year is touch football, which will open team nominations at the end of January.
More than 30 teams are expected to sign up for the mixed competition alone.
This year the committee was forced to put a cap on the number of teams entering because there weren't enough fields. That will all change in 2012 though, with the club prepared for the high numbers.
The Redbacks AFL club hopes to continue its strong form next year, after narrowly missing out on the grand final trophy.
The sign-up for junior and senior players will happen in the first week after the Christmas break, with the first game kicking off March 24.
"We've had a fantastic year and we're confident of a great season," Redbacks' Colin Pope said.
For the Warwick Cowboys club, training will begin mid-January, ahead of their first game in March.
The Wattles Rugby Union club will start a little later, with president Ian Wallis saying training was scheduled for mid-February.
"The sign-up will be early February and juniors will play a game or two before Easter," he said.
"The season goes right through to August for them and for September for the senior players."
Wallis said the sport would welcome more players, especially Under 6s to Under 8s and Wallis guaranteed all would get a lot of time on field.
"I'd encourage anyone thinking about football to sign up," Wallis said.
