Administrators take over Highfields sports club

ADMINISTRATORS have been called in to take control of the Highfields Community Sports Club.

A board member, who did not want to be named, said administrators had been appointed on Monday when the club's doors were closed to the public.

"We've just seen a downturn in the whole community as far as disposable income goes," the board member said.

"We haven't had the patronage we had hoped for."

He said the club had been created as a not-for-profit organisation intended to raise money for various sporting clubs.

Those clubs include the Highfields Rugby League Club.

He said the next step would be a meeting between administrators and those of the club's 3600 members who wanted to attend.

"It's an unfortunate thing."

He said the process was in early stages and was unsure when members, staff and patrons would have more certainty about the club's future.
