AFL: Geelong's favourite son Gary Ablett is back on the field for the Cats.

A month after rejoining his former club via the trade period, the dual Brownlow medallist joined teammates as they went through their paces in the heat Thursday morning.

The Cats released vision on their Instagram account showing Ablett being greeted by new football boss Simon Lloyd.

Ablett (pictured) was then seen doing some running drills with the bulk of the Cats squad sweating it out at the club's training facility at Waurn Ponds.

Ablett is determined to show the doubters he still has plenty of footy left in his body after enduring an injury-plagued end to his time at the Gold Coast Suns.

Earlier this month he fronted the media and said he was confident he could play every game in 2018.

"I'm 33 now, the body is still feeling really great, I feel I have got some good years left in the midfield and then I may drift forward after that," he said.

"I have been doing a fair bit of training just to make sure I am ready to go day one of pre-season, there are no issues with the shoulder.

"I obviously missed a fair bit of footy last season but I am on top of that now and spent a bit of time with the physios and the doctor and I will be ready to go on day one of pre-season.

"I want to be out there for all 22 games and hopefully finals as well."

Lloyd said the Cats were also confident Ablett, a two-time premiership winner with the club, would overcome any fitness concerns.

"I know Gary was doing a lot of different types of testing with our head doctor and physio and basically the screening was positive," Lloyd said.

"Obviously there will be things to manage but the screening was positive with Gaz, particularly around the strength of his shoulders and a lot of the testing on his body was positive.

"Gary at times will play as an inside mid and a deep forward and a high forward. It will be up to Chris and the coaching team as to where they choose to play him.

"But he will play forward line and midfield for us and at times he will have a major influence on a game at any time, but he will also be in the team to play his role."
