A nailbiting finish
NETBALL: THREE goals were all that separated the winner and runner-up of the Stanthorpe YMCA A-grade netball grand final.
The intense battle took place on Tuesday night and it was the Devils who ended up finishing ahead 27 goals to the Pink Ladies 24.
Devils captain Chrissy Mattiazzi said it was a tough game.
"The Pink Ladies were undefeated in the fixtures so we knew it was going to be a hard game," she said.
"It was touch and go the whole game, they would be in front, then we would get ahead.
"But we managed to get a few good plays together in the final quarter and come up with the win."
Mattiazzi said it was a good, clean, professional and enjoyable game.
"We had two great umpires which helped move the game forward," she said.
Mattiazzi and the Devils had been involved in the competition for many years.
"It was a great season, it always is," she said.
The B-grade grand final had Dilligaf and Lyrebirds go head to head.
This was another close match, with just two points separating the winning side Lyrebirds from the runners-up.
Lyrebirds had to work hard to keep in the game though, only managing to score two goals to Dilligaf's seven in the first quarter.
By half-time they managed to work their way to being just one goal behind.
They came out firing in the third quarter, scoring a massive 10 goals.
