A jazzy Mother's Day at Heritage Estate

HERITAGE Estate Wines has new owners, Robert and Therese Fenwick, and they are continuing jazz events at their Cottonvale cellar door venue.

"We attended Jazzify's November event last year and loved it,” said Ms Fenwick.

"It was a very happy day and we're keen to continue the good times this Mother's Day.

"Jazzify Combo with Songbird Teri Welles have invited two guest musicians to join them, Ian Craig on trombone and Michael Stemmler on trumpet, for touch of trad jazz on the day.

"A six-piece band is a bit special so it's going to be a great way to spend Mother's Day, or any Sunday afternoon.”

Mr Craig's interest in jazz started early. He remembers being told off in school orchestra for "swinging it too much”. He came to Australia from the UK about 20 years ago, and not long after joined Toowoomba Jazz Society. He lectures part-time at USQ in Engineering and is learning gypsy jazz guitar.

Mr Stemmler is originally from Switzerland and has been in Australia for just over 35 years. He started learning classical trumpet and flugel horn at the age of 10, but jazz concerts inspired his interest in another area of music. In 1988 Michael joined Toowoomba Jazz Society and has been playing regularly, with Craig and other musician members, since.

"This Mother's Day all are welcome to join us for a swinging afternoon of award-winning wine, good food and some wonderful live muisc. Make sure you book to ensure a seat,” Ms Fenwick said.

Sunday 12 May, noon to 4pm at Heritage Estate Wines, 747 Granite Belt Drive, Cottonvale. Entry is $20. Wine, lunch, cheese platters and refreshments available to buy. Bookings preferred, phone 07 4685 2197.
