Father caught three times over with six-year-old in car

A FATHER caught driving while nearly three times the legal alcohol limit with his six-year-old child in the car has lost his licence for four months.

Shaun David Cooper, 34, was stopped on Alderley St for a random breath test about 8.30pm on April 4, Toowoomba Magistrates court heard yesterday.

Police prosecutor Sergeant Tony Costa said Cooper's six-year-old child was in the passenger seat when he blew 0.145 per cent.

Defence solicitor Nathan Bouchier said his client was the sole carer for his four children, aged between four and 10.

"The mother is not permitted to care for the children," Mr Bouchier said.

He also said his client was on a learner's permit at the time.

Magistrate Damian Carroll expressed disappointment in the reading Cooper registered.

"Look, it's getting up there," Magistrate Carroll said.

"Of significance to me is you had your six-year-old child in the car with you."

In addition to his driving disqualification, Cooper was also fined $700.
