A dozen crews attempt to contain Granite Belt blaze

TWELVE crews are currently working to contain a fire at Applethorpe that broke out this afternoon.

A Queensland Fire and Emergency Services spokeswoman said the fire at Barnes Rd is being tackled by both urban and rural crews and had so far burnt roughly 10 acres.

"They are putting in containment lines which they're still working on.

"They're working on the western flank of it,” the spokeswoman said.

QFES said the blaze is posing no threat to property at this time.

"Nearby residents may be affected by a smoke haze and are asked to close windows and doors and if suffering from a respiratory condition, keep medication close by.

"Motorists should drive with caution and to conditions.”

If residents are concerned their property is under threat they are advised to call Triple Zero (000) immediately.
