Exhausted but still giving in NZ
HE IS exhausted by six days of 12 hour shifts, but Warwick firefighter Michael Coombes is continuing his gruelling work in earthquake-ravaged Christchurch.
The husband, father-of-two and local hero flew to the heart of the disaster zone last Wednesday as part of a team of specially trained Urban Search and Rescue firefighters.
The group is equipped with supplies for 10 days.
Mr Coombes contacted the Daily News via mobile phone text message today to update us on his mission.
“Working on CTV site. 12 hour shifts. Tired but OK,” his text read.
According to reports in international media, police have abandoned hope of finding any survivors in the CTV building.
The Daily News will follow up with Mr Coombes if and when possible.
