Gremlins fail to haul in Texas

JASON Edmondstone returned from injury to steer Texas to a 32-20 victory against premiers Stanthorpe Gremlins in the Border Rugby League game at Reg Saunders Oval, Texas, on Saturday.

With Stanthorpe losing and Tenterfield comfortably beating Inglewood, Tenterfield has won the minor premiership and the right to host the major semi-final on September 12.

Stanthorpe manager Peter Shatte said his side dropped too much ball and let Texas in for three tries in the first 10 minutes.

“We got back into the game with 20 minutes to go but the early Texas lead was too much for us,” Shatte said.

Edmondstone, the Texas captain-coach, played his first game for a month and received three player of the year points from the referee.

Stanthorpe halfback Jason Wilmot received two points and Texas centre Robbie Morris one point.

Texas is almost back to full strength after being devastated by injuries in the past month.

In the final round of the season on Saturday, Killarney hosts Tenterfield and Inglewood is at home to Texas in the local derby.

The top four in the Border League has been determined with Killarney missing out on a finals chance this season.
