Shouting led cops to drug lab

A POLICE investigation into a domestic disturbance took on a whole new turn on Saturday when officers allegedly found a drug lab hidden in the bedroom of the house they had been called to.

Bundaberg police sergeant Steve Schultz said officers were first called to a Kalkie home by a neighbour who claimed a man was loudly abusing a woman, whom she could also hear crying loudly.

But when officers arrived to investigate the matter at the Kingsford St home just before 2pm, they allegedly found a meth lab in one of the rooms.

"The offender was very reluctant that police should look in a certain room," Sgt Schultz said.

Following the discovery, the six adults and three children at the house were evacuated and the illicit laboratory investigation team were called in from Brisbane.

The team arrived just before 8pm to examine and dismantle the alleged laboratory.

A man was charged with one count of producing dangerous drugs and will face court at a later date.

THE SIGNS

  • Signs of clandestine laboratory activity may include:
  • Strong, unusual odours
  • Traffic at late hours
  • Covered windows and reinforced doors
  • Exhaust fans and pipes on windows
  • High security measures such as bars on windows
  • An accumulation of chemical containers and waste
