Residents angry at sex offender

ANGRY residents flocked to Facebook yesterday to vent their disgust at having another child sex offender living in the Warwick community.

The fury arose after a Warwick man convicted of a child sex offence was released from jail after serving three months behind bars.

Earlier this year the 45-year-old man - who cannot be named to protect the identity of his victim - pleaded guilty to one charge of indecent treatment of a child under 16.

He was sentenced to three months jail in the Toowoomba District Court on September 2, 2011 and was also placed on two years probation.

People took to the social networking site to urge parents to keep a close eye on their children in the wake of the man's release from jail.

Some Facebook users tried to coax the name of the man from other users, while some urged people to be rational and not incite vigilante-style responses.

"Guys remember if you find out their name - we can't have a vigilante process happening. But we can quietly warn our children," one user wrote.

Another woman wrote, "I was afraid because never did I imagine this person would be like that. So my warning to all is 'Watch your kids and don't trust just anyone'."

A local mother used Facebook to illustrate her disbelief that the man had been released from jail.

"People like that shouldn't be allowed to move anywhere, they should be behind bars and never let out," she said.
