Police dogs sniff out $1.2m in crime this Christmas

MORE than $1.2 million was discovered this year under the Australian Federal Police's canine program.

In the lead up to the holiday season, authorities warned that police dogs, whose sense of smell is a million times more powerful than a human's, will be on patrol at airports these holidays.

They are trained to smell drugs, cash, firearms and explosives.
