Cowboys bag the trifecta
THE Cowboys were given a fairytale finish to their fixture season on Sunday at Father Ranger Oval, comfortably winning all three grades in glorious weather conditions for rugby league.
The highlight of the afternoon was an exhibition game played before A grade between Collegians and Suburbs under-8 sides.
The excitement and enthusiasm the kids displayed as they ran on the field through a guard of honour presented by Wattles and Cowboys reserve grade players was great to see.
The kids offered encouragement to their A-grade heroes from both Cowboys and Wattles as they took to the field which was as rewarding as any other aspect of the day.
Under 18 game
THE Warwick under-18 side took out the Mick Ryan Memorial Shield with a comprehensive victory over the Wattles.
The forwards were led up front by Michael West who had another strong game, while in the back, Rick McGahan and Shane Duck also had good games.
Coach George McVeigh unleashed Mitchell (Weavel) Washbourne on the Warriors and he managed to score a try after some good support play.
It was the all round team effort that McVeigh was pleased with.
He reminds the boys that finals football is another step up and the young Cowboys will have to remain disciplined and focussed in the coming weeks.
The best back went to Rick McGahan while Michael (the Dog Whisperer) West deservedly took out best forward and players player.
