91 storey 'vertical village' high-rise proposed for Brisbane

THE sky may not be the limit when it comes to Brisbane highrise construction but that is not stopping property developers reaching as far into it as they can.

The central business district could be set for its third building at the city's maximum allowable height, 274 metres, if Brisbane City Council gives a new proposal the go ahead.

Singaporean property developer World Class Land last week submitted a development application for a 91 storey residential tower at 30 Albert Street, on the corner of Margaret Street, in Brisbane city, a 732 apartment development it calls a "vertical village".

If approved, it will be Brisbane's third residential skyscraper to reach the maximum allowable height of 274 metres, equal to the under-construction Skytower in Margaret Street and another tower under construction by the Taiwanese-based Shayher Group on the old law courts site in George Street.

The height limit is set by Airservices Australia and the Civil Aviation Safety Authority.
