Helmet cam vision shows moment officer struck by car

LATEST: Police are appealing for public assistance after a highway patrol officer was struck by a car at Collingwood Park yesterday.

Initial information suggests that an officer on a motorcycle was travelling on the inbound lanes of the Ipswich Motorway around 7.50am when he noticed a car travelling at excessive speeds.

The officer followed and pulled the vehicle over at the Mine St exit.

As he was pulling up behind the car, it will be alleged that it reversed toward him at speed and he had to take evasive action to avoid being hit.

The vehicle then accelerated forward and collided with the rear of the police motorcycle, causing the officer to be thrown from the bike.

The car then fled the scene and was last seen turning under the Ipswich Rd overpass.

The officer was taken to hospital with minor injuries to his hand and leg.

The vehicle that police are looking for is described as a dark green older model Ford Falcon sedan.

Police are appealing for anyone that may have witnessed the incident and hasn't already contacted them or has a dash cam and was driving in the area at the time to contact them.

Investigations are continuing.

Anyone with information which could assist with this matter should contact Crime Stoppers anonymously via 1800 333 000 or 24hrs a day.
