Community consultation set to continue on nuclear plant

DESPITE a community group declaring that they are against the nuclear facility at Oman Ama, community consultation will continue.

Minister Josh Frydenberg was sent a letter by the Friends of Oman Ama earlier this month, declaring the community had rejected the facility and asking him to cease all community meetings.

They also stated further meetings would be a "waste of taxpayer funds".

While Mr Frydenberg said he respected the group's views, he was committed to seeing the consultation continue.

"All members of the community should be given the continued opportunity to provide their views, including those who have shown their support for a proposed site, and those who seek further information," Mr Frydenberg said.

"The 120-day consultation period currently under way provides an important opportunity to engage with all members of the community."

Mr Frydenberg said the current plan had not changed, with a proposed site to be identified before the end of the year.

A Facebook page launched by the Friends of OmanAma is gaining followers, with almost 800 people liking the page.

The group will continue their campaign against the facility.
